The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was established by Congress in 1939 to assist the Coast Guard in promoting boating safety. It boasts nearly 33,000 members from all walks of life who receive special training so that they may be a functional part of Team Coast Guard. Auxiliarists assist the Coast Guard in non-law enforcement programs such as public education, vessel safety checks, safety patrols, search and rescue, marine environmental protection and Coast Guard Academy introduction programs for youth. Station Alpena is a case in point. It is an Active Duty U.S. Coast Guard Station, with BMC Richard Houchin as Officer In Charge. Auxiliary Flotilla 26-04 works out of Station Alpena and alongside the Active Duty crew to handle many of the Coast Guard programs and missions in the NE Lake Huron area of responsibility. Auxiliarists in America volunteer more than 2 million hours annually to benefit other boaters and their families.

Come and join us as we serve our country and our community. Be a part of an organization that has an honorable history and mission. Help save lives and property on the Great Lakes.

Membership in the Auxiliary is open to U.S. citizens who wish to volunteer their time and talents to safeguarding our shores.
